Nightly Fairy Meeting
Led by the Mayor of Fairytrail Blaze Lightningbush
“Alright, alright everyone settle down!” said Mayor Lightningbush. “It’s time to start the meeting.” He takes his place at the front of the room.
The meeting house was one of the larger houses on Fairytrail. Originally it was a home like all the others but when old Magpie Jonesbell passed away he said he wanted to give his home to the Fairytrail as a meeting place, since he was the one who first organized the Fairy Meetings. Like all the houses of Fairytrail it was located inside of a tree. This one was on the ground level, and extended up into the tree. It had several stories to it. The ground floor was the biggest room, where the meetings were held. It was once a parlor room, intended for receiving guests or just for relaxing in or having a nice afternoon tea. It had several lovely sofas and chairs, and a few small tables side tables scattered around. There was a large fireplace at one end of the room. Of course the fairies never had a fire created with wood, it was a special fire made with the fairy dust, so it wouldn’t burn everyone’s houses down. Like most fairy houses the walls were the natural wood of the tree, with some pictures hanging around the room.
Currently the room was full of all the fairies who lived on The Fairytrail, for the nightly Fairy Meeting. Trays of various cookies and cakes were being passed around, as was tradition. As Mayor Lightningbush speaks everyone starts to quiet down and find their seats.
“It’s good to see everyone tonight. I think everyone is here, so let’s get started. First item on the agenda is Trolls. Are there any new reports of the troll spottings from earlier this week?” Mayor Lightningbush asked.
A fairy with a slender, angular face and yellow hair as bright as the sun stood up and said “Yes Mr. Mayor.” Misty Gingergrass, who was wearing the uniform of the Troll Patrol Unit or TPU for short continued, “Two more were spotted over by the Frog Bridge. To my knowledge they caused no harm, but it is concerning. I know Mrs. Figpool is concerned about the frogs getting safely from the creek over to the pond. They continue to venture closer the homes on Fairy Trail, which only increases the risk of everyone here. But I’m hoping to work with Mr. Turtlemint in finding a solution.”
Quiet and not so quiet murmurs spread across the room. An older fairy scoffed loudly “Pfft, no harm. They’re trolls, they cause harm just existing!”
“Thank you Ms. Gingergrass. I know the TPU is doing the best they can…”
“They’re not doing enough!” Came a shout from the back of the room interrupting the mayor.
“…and I’m sure Mr. Turtlemint and the Fairy Protection Guard will assist you in any way they can.”
“You got that right Mr. Mayor sir!” said Barry Turtlemint, an older fairy with a round face and who’s once bright blue hair was starting to turn a silvery blue stood up. “I would like to make it clear that the FPG is determined to secure the safety of all those who live on Fairytrail and take care of this troll problem once and for all.” Some claps and mild cheers came from the audience gathered. “But I would also like to remind everyone not to engage the trolls if they see one. While trolls are normally peaceful beings, they have been known to attack if they have cause to believe they are in danger or are provoked to do so. It is unfortunate that they have chosen our forest to inhabit but that is their choice to do so, and they never stay for more than a few years at most in any one spot. So we will leave them be to live here as long as no harm comes to the residents of Fairytrail.”
“A very important reminder indeed Chief Turtlemint.” Said Mayor Lightningbush. “I know some of you have had some bad encounters with the trolls but please remember Chief Turtlemint’s warnings and simply leave them be if you come across one of them. Is that understood?” Mayor Lightningbush looks pointedly into the crowd, as if he was a parent reprimanding a child. Everyone in the room murmured they’re agreement and understanding.
Smiling Mayor Lightningbush continued. “Now onto a cheerier matter of business: the annual Summer Festival is once again upon us!” A cheer erupts from the room.
“Yes, yes settle down. Now I would like everyone in the next week to plan out what they will be doing for this year’s festival. Please report your decisions to the appropriate Festival Committee Member by this time next week so they can ensure we have everything covered. In case you all have forgotten the Committee Members are: Mrs. Treegrass in charge of all performances. Ms. Bitterroots in charge of all bake sales and contests. Mr. Wifflemuddle in charge of craft sales and events, and finally Mr. Plumtoad and Miss. Flutterbees in charge of the sporting events and games. I know they are busy already organizing the Flying Volleyball tournament, so if you would like to enter please see them as soon as possible to secure a spot. The same goes for any performances anyone would like to plan. I know those spots always fill up fast. If you have any other questions about the festival please direct them to either myself or Mrs. Hollyroot. Does anyone have any questions about the festival that I can answer right now?”
“Will there be the snail hunt again?” Asked a small young fairy with bright orange hair with a wide grin on her face.
“We couldn’t have the Summer Festival without it now can we little Scarlet?” chuckled Mayor Lightningbush. The young fairy, Scarlet, along with several other young fairies cheered! The snail hunt was always a popular event for the children of Fairytrail as well as the Toad hopping race and the performance all the children got to put on. “Any other questions?”
An older fairy with silver hair and a long beard asked “When will the festival begin?”
“Great question! The festival will begin the 3rd of August! Just over a month from today! Any other questions?” The room was quiet except for the few side conversations going on. When it looked like there would be no more questions about the festival Mayor Lightningbush wraps up the meeting. “Alright. If there are no more questions this concludes tonight’s meeting. As always feel free to stick around and enjoy the wonderful treats Ms. Bitterroots has prepared for us. We’ll see you all tomorrow!”
With that everyone in the room clapped. Several of the fairies, especially those with younger children got up to leave, either to put the younger ones to bed or to give them a little more time to play before that time came. Most of the older fairies stayed put or moved to a different spot in the room to mingle and chat with their friends. It was times like these that a Fairy House was at it’s peak. The warmth of the fire and the friendly sounds of conversations across the room, it gave a familial feeling of home and comfort, something all fairies of FairyTrail held very dear and close to their hearts.
